The Path of Good Hope
In Scandinavia especially, Progressive Metal bands are shooting out of the soil like mushrooms. Singer
ANDI KRAVLJACA spoke with us about the debut of his group SILENT CALL and the future
prospects of the Stockholmers.

What can You tell us about Your previous career?
The beginnings of the band go back to the year 1990, when guitarist Daniel Ekholm and keyboard
player Patrik Ulfström played in a band called JAMBACK. They had both cover songs and original
material in their repertoire, and were quite successful on the Stockholm scene. In 2003 both of them
decided to package their work in a more professional manner. At the same time they wanted to let in
some more progressive and modern influences into their sound – which led to them finally drawing a
line under JAMBACK and starting up SILENT CALL. Our drummer Mikael Kvist, bass player Tobbe
Moen and I came in one after the other in the year 2006.

You were active in other bands before this!
That's right. I released the album ”Become” with the progressive metal band SEVENTH WONDER.
Unfortunately we got into a dispute right after that, after which I left the band. Moreover, I sang in
ELSESPHERE, which tended to go in a similar direction style-wise. The fate of this band, in turn,
became sealed when their keyboard player decied to resettle to the USA. Mikael Kvist also played in
ELSESPHERE, by the way, and ended up recommending me, since SILENT CALL were looking for a
singer.

How did the songs on Your debut come about?
The bulk was already done when I joined the guys. The recording process is greatly simplified by
digital technology these days. Basically, every man recorded his parts in a different studio. By doing
this we were able to take advantage of special deals with the studios which we could book, and keep
the cost within our grasp. The guest musicians Göran Edman and Daniel Flores recorded their parts at
home in their own studios. By the way, we've decided to bring a special treat: For two weeks before the
release, we're going to be looking more closely at one of our songs every day on our website – how it
was created, what the lyrics mean, and so on...

A cool idea! What are Your expectations of ”Creations From A Chosen Path”?
In the first place that we get a chance to move forward, and get to record a second album. The situation
these days, for musicians and record companies alike, is not easy – even the major labels are fighting
for their lives. And when You realize, that a full four weeks before the release date the album appeared
on a file sharing website, it becomes really clear that maybe, if You're lucky, it will attract people to
gigs, that otherwise never would have heard of the band, but that on the other hand, it puts a negative
influence on sales. And it's very apparent that these days, especially smaller labels have to figure out
very carefully what they bring to the market.
